SRH Campus Hamburg's new Professor for International Business Leadership, Prof. Dr. Cordelia Friesendorf gave a talk in our Roof-Top-Talk series on how to transform acquired scientific knowledge into skills for application in management practice.

Beginning with the statement 'wherever there is human activity, there is management', Prof. Dr. Friesendorf discussed five aspects of management: characteristics, scope, functional views, nature and finally the skills of the professional manager.

Emphasizing the need for transformational against a transactional managerial approach in strategic and operational areas of management, she discussed the new challenges such as unexpected man-made crises that constantly change the environment of the company. This made it imperative, that established and young managers invest time and energy to learn and train regularly so as to be strategically agile to adapt to any change, caused by regulation or by competitors.

In the interactive discussion, she pointed out the global view of management being 'the oldest of arts and the youngest of sciences' and gave valuable insights on the professionalization of skills in any management role in Continental Europe. Prof. Dr. Friesendorf concluded highlighting that conviction, integrity, creativity, a team-based approach and leading-from-the-front as key skills in demand in the upcoming years.
